Valdosta State Student Chapter of ACM

News

Website Updates: February 24, 2012

Greetings everyone! Vice-President Ben McPherson here to give a website status update, as there has not been one since the end of Spring 2011. President Stephen Brown and myself are working hard to get the information on this site up-to-date, so please forgive the construction. We are hoping to make this site a useful tool for all members of the Valdosta State ACM chapter, so any ideas and suggestions are welcomed.

Website Updates: May 5, 2011

Everything on the website is up-to-date and ready for the next Website Administrator! I really feel that this site is open for extension, and hope to see someone step forward and take the initiative. We have built the shell, and I've populated the pages with information and photos, but I really would like to see those of you with more time on your hands really put this site to use. Because I am graduating this Saturday, I can no longer manage the website. Some things I hope to see:

  • A database-driven system for Events. This should be easy, but it will be a great help for editing the website without having to open the project everytime.
  • A forum for those underclassmen that seek guidance from the upperclassmen.
  • More photos!

If you are interested in becoming the new Website Administrator, please contact me, Chelsea Youmans, and I will get you everything you need.

Spring Picnic: April 29, 2011

Check out the Events page for photos from the Spring Picnic with MAA! We all had a good time playing volleyball, eating, and socializing. It was a great way to relax before finals week.

Last Meeting: April 19, 2011

Here is what we covered at the last meeting (Wednesday, 4/19/11):

  • Voted on officers! It was a close match between Kai Tillman and Rob Jenkins for President, but we had a swing vote that made Kai the new president and Rob agreed to take the place of Vice President. I look forward to hearing about the things ACM will do with their new leadership next semester, including programming competitions! Kai took the place of Sean Meyer as president, and Rob is replacing Kai as Vice President. The Secretary and Treasurer are still Jovan VanDyke and Deven Ellis, respectively. Congratulations, guys!
  • The new VSU ACM t-shirts were passed out. If you still need to pick up yours, please visit Dr. Chakraborty's office, or email Sean Meyer.
  • We covered the details on the upcoming Spring Picnic with MAA. It will be on Friday, April 29, 2011. Check out the Events page for more details.
  • Dr. Xu held a seminar for those of us currently looking for jobs in the Computer Science field. He gave us tips and went over some example programming questions to give us an idea about what to expect in our interviews. It was very informative and you can find the slides and solutions here.

This was the last meeting of the semester. Next Fall, ACM will continue to have bi-weekly meetings every other Wednesday held in the same place (NH 2109). Look out for specific dates.
